About Botox and Dermal Fillers

Botox and dermal fillers are minimally invasive injectables formulated to help rejuvenate one’s appearance. Botox is used to help reduce and prevent the formation of wrinkles, creases, and fine lines. Botox is a neuromodulator, meaning it blocks nerve signals to prevent muscle contractions. (1)

On the other hand, dermal fillers are used to restore lost volume, enhance facial contours, and improve the overall appearance of the skin. They can also help improve the appearance of scars and acne marks. Our fillers are formulated from hyaluronic acid (HA), a hydrating substance that can naturally be found in the body. (2)

At Azad Plastic Surgery, we offer Botox, Dysport, and Letybo injections for patients interested in neuromodulators, and maintain a portfolio of Juvederm and Restylane products for those seeking dermal fillers. No matter what type of enhancement is being sought, our team can help each patient find a treatment that benefits them.

Our Selection of Neuromodulators

  • Botox: Botox is an injectable treatment that is used to help reduce and prevent the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and creases in the face. Botox is derived from a protein called botulinum toxin A, a neurotoxin that blocks the neurotransmitters that are responsible for muscle contractions. This relaxes the facial muscles, smoothing out wrinkles to reduce visible signs of aging.
  • Dysport: Like Botox, Dysport is a neuromodulator designed to help provide natural-looking enhancements while combating signs and symptoms of aging in the face. This formula is ideal for addressing larger areas of the face, such as the forehead or cheeks. (3)
  • Letybo: Letybo is a newer neuromodulator primarily designed to help relax the muscles in the eyebrow region, resulting in smoother-looking skin and an overall more youthful-looking appearance. It is sometimes said that this formula offers a quicker onset time for results and potentially longer-lasting effects than Botox.

Our Selection of Dermal Fillers

  • Juvederm Voluma: Juvederm Voluma can be used to restore lost volume to certain areas of the face. This treatment is primarily used in the cheeks, but can also be used in the temples.
  • Juvederm Volbella: This treatment can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and creases around the mouth. This option is ideal for those interested in a more subtle-looking result. It can also be used for lip augmentation.
  • Juvederm Volux: Juvederm Volux can provide a more contoured jawline for patients who have experienced facial volume loss or poor definition in this region.
  • Juvederm Ultra XC: When injected around the mouth and nose, patients can experience a reduction in severe conditions such as nasolabial folds and other wrinkles. This formula can also be used for lip augmentation.
  • Restylane Kysse: This treatment can enhance the shape and fullness of the lips while also reducing the appearance of wrinkles in the upper and lower lips.
  • Restylane Lyft: Restylane Lyft can be used to help restore volume and structure to the cheeks, but can also be used to help treat the backs of the hands.

Benefits

Benefits of these treatments may include:

  • Natural-Looking Results: Our injectable treatments subtly but impactfully reduce visible signs and symptoms of aging, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and volume loss, allowing patients to enjoy a more youthful-looking appearance

  • Customizable Treatment Options: Any one of our injectable treatments can be customized or combined with another procedure to help patients address their specific concerns.

Candidates

The ideal candidates for Botox and dermal fillers include those interested in reducing visible signs of facial aging, such as fine lines, wrinkles, or volume loss. Patients interested in enhancing the shape and fullness of the lips or cheeks are recommended for dermal fillers, while patients who are mostly concerned with wrinkles caused by muscle contractions may benefit more from Botox injections. Candidates are also typically looking for a non-surgical option for facial revitalization.

All candidates interested in our Botox and dermal fillers should be in good overall health, with realistic expectations regarding the outcome of the treatments. Each patient’s candidacy will be determined by the nurse injector at their personal consultation.

Personal Consultation

The first step of each patient’s treatment is meeting with our nurse injector for a personal consultation. This meeting is not only a chance for us to get to know each patient, but also to find the most suitable treatment for them. The nurse injector will discuss the differences between each of our injectables and collect more information about each patient’s medical history, treatment goals, and concerns. From there, the injector will recommend the most effective injectable plan to help them achieve their ideal aesthetic. Necessary preparation and recovery instructions will also be provided, along with an all-inclusive quote.

Preparation

Each patient will receive a set of preparatory guidelines at their consultation, instructing them how to properly prepare for their injections. Generally speaking, preparation for neuromodulator injections or dermal fillers is straightforward.

Patients may be asked to temporarily cease the use of certain medications or supplements, specifically those with blood-thinning properties. The use of nicotine products, as well as the consumption of alcohol, should be ceased several days before the appointment to reduce the risk of complications. On the day of the procedure, patients should arrive at their appointment with a clean face, free of any makeup or skincare products.

Procedure

Procedure for Botox and Other Neuromodulators

The procedure for Botox and other neuromodulators begins with the cleansing of the patient’s skin. The nurse injector will apply a topical numbing cream to ensure the patient feels as comfortable as possible. The nurse injector will then inject the formula before injecting it into predetermined points on the face. The procedure is quick to perform, typically taking just 10-15 minutes.

Procedure for Dermal Fillers

Similar to Botox, our dermal filler treatment begins with the cleansing of the skin. Topical anesthesia can be applied to manage discomfort, but many types of dermal fillers contain lidocaine, a numbing agent, in their formula already. The nurse injector will inject the formula into specific areas; these points often include the cheeks, lips, jawline, nasolabial folds, and more.

After Your Treatment

Each patient will receive a set of guidelines at their consultation instructing them how to take care of their skin after their treatment. Following a neuromodulator or dermal filler treatment, patients will be able to immediately return to most aspects of their daily routines. Redness and mild swelling may be experienced at the injection sites, but these effects are temporary and will gradually subside on their own. We ask patients to avoid physical exercise and other strenuous tasks for at least 24 hours and refrain from touching, massaging, or putting other pressure on the treated area.

Results

The onset of each patient’s results will vary slightly, depending on the type of treatment being received. Neuromodulators often start showing effects within 2-5 days, depending on the specific formula received, but often take 10-14 days to develop more fully. Meanwhile, the results of dermal fillers can be seen more immediately, with patients noticing visible improvements in the treated areas soon after their appointment.
