Flankplasty Azad Plastic Surgery Dr. Kamran Azad

A flankplasty is a body contouring procedure that removes excess, droopy skin from the flanks and lower back for a slimmer, more proportional figure. As you age, collagen production in your skin declines, often resulting in drooping skin that can affect your proportions, self-confidence, and mobility. Sagging skin and exercise-resistant fat can develop in the midsection, affecting mobility, quality of life, and self-esteem. Removing excess skin on the sides of the hips, colloquially known as “love handles” with a flankplasty, can improve your body proportions and well-being. Since the treatment is customizable, we can combine it with other body contouring procedures to remove pockets of excess fat.

At Azad Plastic Surgery, we specialize in customizable body contouring procedures that permanently remove excess skin to improve your quality of life. Dr. Kamran Azad is a board-certified plastic surgeon with decades of experience helping patients increase their self-confidence and improve their mobility with his artistic approach and innovative procedures.

About Flankplasty

If you have sagging skin, wrinkles, and excess fat, a flankplasty can help you improve your figure and quality of life. Weight loss, pregnancy, and aging can cause your skin to sag, resulting in droopy pockets of tissue that make it difficult to fit into your clothing. The excess skin can also cause rashes, skin irritation, or issues with intimacy in personal relationships. A flankplasty can restore your natural contour to help you achieve your desired look.

Removing the excess skin can also address uncomfortable chafing and rebalance your body proportions. During the procedure, Dr. Azad will make a thin incision along the natural curves of your skin to tighten it and remove excess tissue for a smoother appearance. We can customize the treatment for your needs, and many patients include additional procedures to address droopy skin in multiple areas.

Flankplasty and Liposuction

We can also combine the procedure with liposuction to remove excess fat and a tummy tuck to remove droopy skin from the arms that can affect the way your clothing fits. Liposuction is a body contouring procedure that removes excess fat cells with gentle suction that preserves the surrounding tissue. During the treatment, we also cleanse the fat cells with tumescent fluid–a combination of saline, lidocaine, and epinephrine–for a smoother recovery. Liposuction can also improve your muscle definition for a more toned, athletic figure.

Benefits

There are several benefits of flankplasty, including:

  • Smoother skin: Removing pockets of droopy skin can help you improve your proportions and achieve a smoother, more youthful-looking body.
  • Better clothing options: You can feel more comfortable in different kinds of clothing.
  • Balanced proportions: Removing excess skin can sculpt your figure for a smoother appearance.
  • Lasting results: Since we excise the tissue, you can enjoy lasting results if you take good care of your body.
  • More youthful-looking figure: Removing excess skin that creates folds and wrinkles can help you restore your body confidence with a more youthful-looking figure.

Candidates

Suitable candidates for a flankplasty are struggling with the appearance of droopy skin in multiple areas of the body. Many patients would like to address the following:

  • Rashes
  • Skin irritation
  • Sagging skin

Many have also experienced significant changes to their appearance after weight loss, aging, and pregnancy. If you want a customizable procedure that can permanently remove excess tissue, you are likely a good candidate for a flankplasty. The procedure is not just cosmetic; removing excess, droopy skin can improve your mobility and daily performance.

Candidates must be prepared to make healthy lifestyle changes that can help them maintain a stable weight. The best candidates are in good overall health and want to remove excess skin, achieve a tighter, narrower waist, and are comfortable with an incision above the underwear line. (1)

Exercising regularly and eating healthy meals can help you maintain your results. If you cannot maintain a stable weight, you may not be the best candidate for the procedure, and we can discuss alternatives.

Consultation

During your consultation, we will ask about your medication, lifestyle, and medical history. We can discuss your current lifestyle and examine the areas you want to contour to create a personalized plan for your unique needs.

If you recently lost weight, we can discuss the effects of weight loss with you and how it impacted your skin. You must be close to your weight loss goals to undergo a body contouring procedure, and we can let you know if you are a candidate depending on your body mass index (BMI). (2)

If you have additional body goals, we can discuss the best treatment plan for your needs and recommend additional treatments to help you achieve them. Some patients may also want to contour the upper body, remove skin from the arms, or reshape the breasts after weight loss. Droopy skin on the breasts after weight loss, colloquially known as “Ozempic breast,” is a common issue that can cause distress and affect self-esteem.

Preparation

Since flankplasty is a customizable procedure, patients will receive slightly different preparation instructions based on their treatment plan. All patients must avoid excessive sun exposure, which could damage their skin and delay their appointments. They must also stop taking medications and supplements that thin their blood. For the best results, patients must refrain from drinking alcohol for 24 hours before and after the procedure. If you are not close to your ideal body weight, you may need to lose weight to minimize the risk of complications.

Recovery

After a flankplasty, our team will monitor you until you wake up. You can return home to rest, but you will need someone to care for you for approximately 24-48 hours. Although you can take light walks, you will need to avoid vigorous exercise for several weeks. You will also need to take at least 2 weeks off work; Dr. Azad will let you know when exactly you can return to normal activities. Depending on your procedure, you will most likely need to refrain from vigorous activities for a few months.

Corresponding Treatments

Brazilian Butt Lift

A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) restores volume to your buttocks if you lose it from aging or lifestyle changes. We can increase the volume of your buttocks with a fat transfer (Brazilian Butt Lift) for a smoother, curvier appearance. We will harvest fat from one area of the body and reinject it into another for smoother, curvier buttocks. We purify the excess fat in a centrifuge to extract the purest fat cells.

Arm Lift

If you have droopy skin on the arms that affects your self-esteem and the way your clothing fits we can remove it with an arm lift. With an incision across the underside of the arms, we can remove the excess tissue and tighten the skin for a smoother appearance. Droopy skin can make it difficult to fit into your shirts. Since the excess skin does not respond to exercise, it can be challenging to address it with lifestyle changes. We can also remove pockets of excess fat with liposuction for a smoother appearance.

Breast Lift

A breast lift removes droopy skin from the breasts and lifts their position for a smoother, more youthful-looking appearance. Droopy skin after aging is common, but these changes to your body can affect the way your clothing fits. If you experience droopy breasts after weight loss, a condition colloquially known as “Ozempic breast,” we can remove the excess skin and reshape the breasts for a smoother figure. During the procedure, we make a thin incision along the natural curves of the body to excise the excess tissue and reposition the nipple for a natural-looking appearance.
