Knowing what to expect after a breast augmentation procedure is just as important as the procedure itself. Everyone has their own rate of healing, so there is no exact timeline for recovery.
However, when you come in for a breast augmentation consultation with Dr. Azad, he will be able to assess your overall health and give you a more definitive timeline before your procedure. But on average, a full recovery can take about six weeks, but many women notice that they feel great after just the first week.
Below are the general post-op breast augmentation surgery stages:
- Once you wake up from anesthesia, most patients report feeling groggy and sore. These effects usually wear off within a few hours, but you will need to have someone come with you to drive you home and care for you overnight.
- The first couple of days are definitely the most uncomfortable. Dr. Azad will go over your pain control options with you at your consultation and will have a plan in place to help manage your post-operative pain.
- After the first week, postoperative pain or discomfort can usually be managed with over-the-counter medication, and some women can return to work within a couple of days, depending on their job requirements. We also recommend that our patients slowly ease back into light exercise and normal daily activities and no heavy lifting over 4lbs for the first 6-8 weeks.
- At your breast augmentation post-operative appointment, Dr. Azad will be able to assess your individual healing and recovery progression. However, most patients can resume all normal activities in about 2 months.
- Dr. Azad’s colleague, Dr. William Albright, who performs breast augmentation in San Antonio, recommends waiting 2-6 months for final results depending on placement of the implant
