About the Brazilian Butt Lift

A Brazilian butt lift can help patients achieve more of a proportional hourglass figure without the use of implants. To carry out a Brazilian butt lift, Dr. Azad uses liposuction to remove fat from other areas of the body. Oftentimes, these areas are the abdomen, back, or flanks. Then, after processing and preparing the fat, he transfers it to the buttocks. He can also perform additional liposuction around the buttocks to further improve the appearance of lift and contour. (1)

The Brazilian butt lift results in rounder, lifted buttocks, and a more elegant body profile overall. This procedure can be for both women and men who feel that they have flat or undefined buttocks.

Benefits

A Brazilian butt lift can benefit the individual in many ways. These ways include:

  • Enhanced Proportions: The Brazilian butt lift achieves a more symmetrical and curvaceous appearance.
  • Natural-looking Results: Utilizing the body’s own fat for volumization provides a softer, more natural look compared to artificial implants.
  • Body Contouring: Dr. Azad will use liposuction to remove excess fat from fat pockets, which improves the contours of other areas in addition to the buttocks.
  • Minimal Scarring: As incisions are small, scarring is often minimal and strategically placed to be less visible.
  • Improved Self-confidence: Many individuals report feeling more confident in their body after undergoing the procedure.
  • Long-lasting Effects: With proper post-operative care and maintenance, fat transfer results can last for many years.
  • Customizable Approach: Dr. Azad can tailor the procedure specifics according to each patient’s desired outcome and anatomical considerations.
  • Less Risk than Implants: Fewer risks associated with complications compared to the insertion of prosthetics or implants. (2)

Candidates

A good candidate for a Brazilian butt lift is someone who is overall in good health and has sufficient donor areas of fat on their body. Good candidates need to have sufficient excess fat deposits to ensure there is enough available for the transfer to create a round buttock during surgery. Very thin patients should discuss their options with Dr. Azad while they are considering the procedure.

You may also be a good candidate if you:

  • Want to enhance your buttocks without implants
  • Have skin in good condition in the hip and buttocks area
  • Are willing and able to avoid sitting directly on your buttocks for several weeks

Despite the name, the Brazilian butt lift is not exactly a “lifting” procedure. It does not address any sagging skin in the buttocks, it only enhances its shape and size. If you are worried about sagging skin, you may consider a thigh or buttock lift instead of this procedure.

Preparation

To prepare for your Brazilian butt lift, Dr. Azad will provide you with a list of steps you can take. This list may include the following actions:

  • Avoid smoking and consumption of nicotine products for a minimum of six weeks prior to surgery, as their substances can interfere with blood flow and prolong the healing process.
  • Discontinue the use of blood thinners, certain vitamins, or supplements as instructed by Dr. Azad.
  • Arrange for someone to assist you during the initial recovery phase.
  • Allocate time off work and social commitments to ensure an adequate recovery period.
  • Prepare your home environment to maximize your comfort during the initial recovery.

Procedure

A Brazilian butt lift is a specialized procedure that creates an enhanced buttock area without the use of implants. The procedure involves the transfer of fat from another part of the body into the buttocks, creating a fuller look while maintaining a natural appearance.

After you receive anesthesia, the procedure will begin with liposuction. The areas of the body designated for fat donation through liposuction will depend on the patient, but usually Dr. Azad will remove fat from the abdomen, flanks (love handles), or lower back. Through small incisions in the area with sufficient fat deposits, Dr. Azad will use specialized suction tubes called cannulas to remove the fat.

After fat extraction, Dr. Azad will purify the fat and prepare it for transfer to the buttocks. He will inject the fat into specific areas of the buttocks to increase volume and improve shape in the most effective way. This procedure usually takes about 2-4 hours, depending on the results you want to achieve and the amount of fat Dr. Azad transfers.

The Brazilian Butt Lift procedure can take away unwanted fat from areas of the body while simultaneously enhancing the buttock area. This can help to create curves that will enhance the natural figure, reduce fat pockets in other areas of the body, help clothes fit in a more flattering way, and boost overall confidence.

Recovery

Recovery from the Brazilian butt lift procedure can look different for different patients, depending on what areas Dr. Azad transferred the fat from. In any case, you will not be able to sit directly on your buttocks for about two weeks after the procedure. (2) During recovery, you will have to sleep on your stomach. If you have to carry out any activities, you will have to be on your side instead of sitting, or simply stay standing so as to not put pressure on the buttocks, with the exception of using the restroom.

After the first week of recovery, Dr. Azad will show you how you can sit in a modified position using a “donut” pillow, which places less pressure on the buttocks. Most patients will return to work about a week after the procedure if they are able to either stand or use the special cushions. After about 8 weeks, you should be able to resume normal sitting activity.

Recovery time lengths often depend on the patient and how their body responds to Brazilian butt lift surgery. Before leaving Azad Plastic Surgery, our team will give you specific instructions on how to care for the treated areas, what medications you can use, and when you should follow up with Dr. Azad.

Results

The Brazilian butt lift procedure is meant to create results that will last years to come. The areas Dr. Azad addresses with liposuction will maintain their contours as well, as the fat cells will not return. However, the nearby fat cells can expand in the event of significant weight gain, and this can obscure the body contouring results. The fat that Dr. Azad transfers to the buttocks will remain in place for years, but this area can also be impacted by weight fluctuations. To maintain your results, it can be useful to practice a healthy lifestyle involving regular exercise

It is important to note that the body will absorb some amount of fat. This amount varies between different patients and the technique used. Most patients can expect to keep anywhere from 40-70% of the total fat transferred. After about six months of settling and recovering, the fat that remains after this point is permanent.

FAQ

What is the difference between a Brazilian butt lift and butt implants?

The Brazilian butt lift uses a patient’s own body fat to create the desired shape. It creates a more natural look and feel and it is easier to achieve optimal results than implants. With implants, volume can only be delivered to one specific area and they are less customizable to shape the buttocks. There is also a lower risk of infection with the lift because it uses the patient’s own tissue.

How long do the results from a Brazilian butt lift last?

With a healthy lifestyle, your results can last for many years. However, significant weight fluctuations can affect your final shape.

Is the procedure for a Brazilian butt lift painful?

Most patients experience some discomfort after surgery, but this is typically manageable with prescribed medication and subsides after a few days.

Will I be able to sit following the Brazilian butt lift surgery?

It is recommended to avoid sitting directly on your buttocks for at least two weeks post-procedure to optimize fat survival. You can sit using specialized cushions during this time if necessary.
